We Dominican Sisters work and stand for justice and peace in many forums: locallly, nationally and internationally. Our work for justice may be seen in how and where we minister, programs for responsible investment, demonstrations, statements of our standing together against nuclear arms, the trafficking of women, and the death penalty.
We stand for the rights and needs of those newly immigrated into our country. We do that through our pastoral care in outreach programs, our programs that teach English as a second language providing a way for a new start and jobs, demonstrating when necessary to protest injustice. We have people who work as advocates for the poor and social services.
We work for peace and justice in our world as an order with our Non Governmental Organization representatives at the United Nations in NY and in Geneva. The NGO's influence committee work at the UN and try to bring a values perpective to the legislation, negotiations, and work for the millenium goals of the UN, especially to stand for the needs of the poor and the oppressed.
We stand for the rights and needs of the abused, the homeless, and needy in our world. Sisters staff homeless shelters, places that house the abused, Social Service centers. We have lawyers that have advocated for the poor and elderly. We have Social workers and those who care for those in hospitals and hospice. We also have missions.
Sister Margaret Mayce OP is our NGO at the UN in NY. She would be happy to facilitate your learning more about Her work and presence there.

We Dominican Sisters know that how we eat makes a difference.
Most of our congregations have green space. Genesis Farm, Sophia Garden, Goshen, and along the Hudson river that promote living and eating green with community supported agriculture and/or advocay for the areas.
We Dominican Sisters have missions and provinces in many areas of the world. The Amityville Dominicans have a province in Puerto Rico and Mission in the Dominican Republic. The Blauvelt Dominican Sisters have missions in Jamaica and the islands and a project with South Africa. The Sparkill Dominicans Sisters give a life-threating witness to faith and justice in Pakistan and Peru
We Dominican Sisters realize that how we invest our funds makes a difference. We have worked together to make responsible corporate investments and to call companies to accountability in how they operate. We have protested injustice, pollution, and sought to make our own buildings green be it with solar panels, geothermal heating and recycling of waste water to just name a few. We have land ethics and have protected the legacy of green space on some of our properties
